Committed to Green
Wallick cares about the future of our planet and we take our commitment to the environment seriously. Our team members are LEED-certified and we are doing all we can, in every area of our business, to support environmental sustainability, including:
- During development, we pay close attention to responsible land use and the environmental impact of development on the community.
- During construction, we incorporate eco-friendly products that reduce energy consumption and other natural resources and save money over time.
- At Wallick headquarters and at the hundreds of properties we manage, paper and aluminum cans are recycled.
- Whenever possible, we use electronic filing rather than printing and we print on recycled paper.
- All new company cars are hybrids, helping us to achieve the goal of cutting our use of fuel in half.
In 2010, Wallick expanded its "green" initiative with the creation of its Evergreen Materials™ program. Evergreen Materials™ creates a formal process for determining product standards and green buying requirements, also called Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP).
In addition to reducing negative impacts on human health and the environment, the program will also increase Wallick's buying power. For example, instead of various communities specifying various toilets, appliances and the like, there will be one set of specifications for each item, all of them green — environmentally friendly.
Materials to be sourced through the Evergreen Materials program include:
- Plumbing: water-saving toilets and faucets, ENERGY STAR qualified water heaters
- HVAC: high efficiency, ENERGY STAR qualified furnaces and air conditioners
- Flooring: carpet and vinyl flooring made from recycled/recyclable materials, with low VOC emissions
- Paint: low VOC emitting, purchased from a manufacturer with its own company-wide green initiatives program
- Cabinets & countertops: manufactured without added formaldehyde, containing wood from rapidly renewing resources, and/or containing recycled materials
- Appliances: old appliances are diverted from landfills and replaced with ENERGY STAR models
- Lighting: ENERGY STAR fixtures, some with individual controls and sensors to limit energy consumption when lighting is not needed for specific tasks
- Windows: ENERGY STAR qualified
- Doors: wood doors made without added formaldehyde, using recycled content, ENERGY STAR qualified, and/or from manufacturers who recycle their manufacturing waste
- Shingles: contain recycled materials, and manufacturer has recycling program for old shingles that are removed
Other materials will be added as additional "green" products and services are identified, and as future innovations are made.
